With the rapid development of the rural area, especially with the extensive works of repairing traditional folk house and protected historical buildings, lightweight hoisting equipment which can adapt to narrow space is needed urgently. It is just against this background, the new type self-erected tower crane QTK16 is designed. As the most important part, the dynamic properties of the jib influence the whole characters of the crane evidently,and its design determines the safety of the whole machine directly. Therefore, it has great practical value for the crane jib to carry out dynamic simulation and structural finite element analysis. In this thesis, taking QTK16 self-erected tower crane jib as the research object, using the virtual prototype technology, kinematics and dynamics simulation and finite element analysis for self-erected tower crane jib during folding process are completed. The simulation results are verified with the theoretical calculation.Considering the complexity of the self-erected tower crane QTK16, the virtual prototype model is established by using the combination of the software Pro/E and ADAMS.The modeling processes especially the processes for building the steel rope model with the software ADAMS are introduced in detail. Meanwhile, it is also expounded that how exchange the data between the two types of software Pro/E and ADAMS. According to the folding principles of the crane, the constraints and loads are set on the model. Through elaborate and theoretical calculation, the drive functions for the model are established based on the parameters of rising cylinder and the expanding mechanism.A simulation analysis is finished for the model and some kinematics and dynamics results are obtained, and the results are evaluated in detail. With the traditional mechanical knowledge, the stresses of the crane jib as a whole or a part are calculated. The simulation results are compared with the calculation one to verify its correctness.The processes for establishing a finite element model of crane jib at the three typical positions in the folding process are introduced in detail. It includes the process of the geometric modeling, the selection of the element type and material properties, the division of the grid, the treatment of the boundary conditions and the loads. Based on the finite elementmodel, the strain and stress of the crane jib are analyzed and the results are compared with that by theoretical calculation. It is prove that the simulation results are reliable.Through the dynamics and finite element simulation of the crane jib, the complete and reliable simulation data are achieved in this thesis. These data lay a theoretical foundation for the design and optimization of the crane jib.
