Study On Reuse Of Industrial Heritage In Preservation And Renaissance Of Historic Urban Area

Reuse of industrial heritage is quite a important issue, as well as the preservation and renaissance of historical urban area. On one hand, the history of the city how to update has been around the ancient capital of the challenges facing the quest for modernization:the protection of urgent rehabilitation is imperative. Everywhere in the search for a practice, not only the protection of historical revival of the city’s specific practices, imposed in the active process of exploration; the other hand, the industrial heritage of the urban industrial upgrade, faced by the urban renewal process issues, including the nature of land under the former industrial land idle updates, renovation and reuse of industrial buildings. Many places are starting to have emerged a number of successful industrial plant transformation case, these cases not only improve the degree of concern of the community’s industrial heritage also inspired the popular urban problems brought about by thinking.There is such a large amount of historical urban area to be preserved and restored urgently, and also numerous of industrial heritage to be adapted to the need of the city’s growth in Nanjing. In the field of planning, there is not enough study of the relationship between these two issues. The paper takes Nanjing yarn-dyed fabric mill as a typical case of the industrial heritage in the historical urban area, to do some study and design on the level of both urban and the architecture, which should be quite meaningful for the similar cases.The paper is ordered in three parts:fieldwork research-design process-results. And the paper is here to explain the whole process:Chapter one, a brief introduction of the situation of the industrial heritages and historical urban area in Nanjing, focus on Nanjing yarn-dyed fabric mill and the southern area of the historical city;Chapter two, making the principle and high lines for the design, based on the materials in the chapter one;Chapter three,showing the results of urban planning and architectural design for Nanjing yarn-dyed fabric mill.The whole thesis contains about9500words,19pictures and charts.
