Since ancient times, humans have used the canal water system for transportation.Since the waterfront area is naturally adjacent to the water system,it has been a gathering place for large industries and related industries since ancient times. In recent years, with the rapid advancement of urbanization, industrial projects in urban waterfront areas have gradually moved out,and the old industrial areas are inevitably facing transformation and renewal after saying goodbye to their former glory. These old industrial areas still retain some intact structures, with a specific era style, reflecting the excellent memory and structures of a certain period of city memory, such as factory buildings, production lines, and even abandoned facilities. They have typical characteristics of the times and Industrial traces. In the context of stock development and urban renewal, the protection of industrial heritage has gradually received the attention of all sectors of society and is also facing many challenges. The research object of this thesis is the renewal of the urban waterfront industrial zone with industrial heritage. The research is based on domestic and international industrial heritage and the existing research foundation and practical cases of the waterfront industrial zone, and interprets and summarizes the development and evolution of industrial heritage and the waterfront industrial zone, and the excellent cases of renovation and transformation in recent years. The research relies on the relevant theoretical basis of industrial heritage protection and renovation, and explores the core concerns of this research, that is,the catalyst strategy is the core, and the reform strategy and method of applying the catalyst theory to the renovation of the waterfront industrial zone with industrial heritage,And applied to the updated case of the Hefei Ma(He)iron and steel plant. It can be seen from the relevant literature that in recent years, the research on urban renewal of the waterfront industrial zone has become more and more in-depth,and the scope of research has gradually expanded. However,my country’s research in this area mainly focuses on ecological restoration and sustainable design, public space and its form evolution, urban renewal and other directions, with an emphasis on urban design techniques and urban environment remodeling. From the perspective of industrial heritage protection and reuse, there are few relevant studies on the urban renewal of waterfront industrial land, especially compared with western developed countries,my country still has serious deficiencies in this respect. Therefore, how to protect, display and utilize, maximize the value of industrial heritage, improve the quality of urban renewal in the old waterfront industrial zone, and build a characteristic waterfront urban space with industrial culture are the main research issues in this thesis.Based on the above background, from the theoretical basis of industrial heritage protection and renovation, this study selects the perspective of catalyst theory, integrates the catalyst points, lines, and surface elements in the catalyst theory with the planning and renovation planning ideas of the waterfront industrial zone, and proposes The five major strategies for catalyst update and transformation include functional implantation strategies, cultural implantation strategies, ecological restoration strategies, restructuring strategies, and ecological technology application strategies. The general principles of these five perspectives are applicable to the practice of different waterfront industrial zones. However,in practice,it is necessary to combine conditions with local conditions, reasonably select catalyst points, lines, and surface elements, and activate the waterfront industrial zone or even the entire city in stages through catalyst transformation strategies.
