Ship-handing simulator is a hotspot of the simulation technology in the ship domain. Itmakes use of the virtual reality simulation technology to construct a virtual environment ofship navigation. Through the operating components of the simulator and the virtualenvironment, people can achieve the purpose of human-computer interaction. It has greatreal role and significance for crew ability training,detection of shipping performance andperformance analysis of port waterway.In this paper, based on the platforms of Visual C++, Matlab, SQL Server2000,MapX, force control configuration software, it have developed a three-dimensional sceneship-handing simulator platform consist of several distributed systems according to the realship steering system’s functions. This platform mainly includes the data acquisition andmonitoring alarm system, ship motion simulation system, the electronic nautical chart,radar system, virtual compass system and the three-dimensional display system. Thesystem utilizes the data communication between SQL Server2000database server andclient to be the data communication bridge in the interaction of distributed systems, at thesame time coordinates the data transmission and communication within the internal systems.During the operation of the platform, two scene-processing computers are responsiblefor generating the scene observed from the bridge control room when the ship is navigating,using four projectors which has a polarizing lens to project to widescreen. The operators canobserve the visual image of the ship in3D by wearing stereo glasses. A ship motionsimulation computer is responsible for ship motion simulation, and it calculates thereal-time motion of a ship operation state and outputs to the scene according to the receivedexternal command information, so the operator can control the visual scene through theclock and steering wheel based on the variation of ship’s speed and course. In addition, theoperator can also observe current running state, location and other information fromanother computer. When problems emerge in the operation of the ship, alarm system cansend reminders and point the type and location of the problems. After the operation, theplatform can simulate the real ship operation state smoothly and closely. It has the basicform of marine simulator with relatively various functions.This system has a strong practical significance. It can be extended to the engine roompower plant and other operating stations,and it also can also be extended to the car, train,plane, crane, power station and other simulator development fields on the basis of continuously improving the models. This system can develop handle operation, digitalgloves and other means of interaction in order to apply the simulator in the more extensiveand deeper areas and provide a convenient road for the operating personnel training.
