Industrial efficiency has been an enduring core topic of economics. Existing researches concerned are generally based on two important angles, one is the viewpoint of FDI. and the other is in view of industrial agglomeration. Researches from the viewpoint of FDI mostly focused on the impact of FDI spillovers on industrial efficiency, and different conclusions are conducted. The latter is usually based on the externalities of industrial agglomeration, and it generally comes to the conclusion that industrial agglomeration can promote industrial efficiency. However, no matter from which viewpoint, there are little researches consider FDI. especially FDI heterogeneity, and agglomeration together. This paper intends to contribute to this absent literature in two ways. First. based on the heterogeneity of FDI. this paper tries to divide FDI into different types that are dissimilar with the traditional viewpoints. Second, this paper combines FDI heterogeneity and industrial agglomeration together and tries to explore what impact they have on industrial efficiency. The innovation of this research lies in the exploration of Chinese industrial efficiency through mechanism and empirical analysis, which fills in the blank of existing literature.Through Literature Reviewing. Mechanism Analyzing as well as Reality and Empirical Analyzing, this paper did a research on the impact of FDI heterogeneity and industrial agglomeration on industrial efficiency. Based on the previous achievements, this paper tries to find out the mechanism, and then verify it by using the panel data of Chinese manufacturing industry. And it has theoretic meaning as well as practical meaning to Chinese industrial upgrading.Theoretical Analysis and Experience Analysis are both used in this paper. In Theoretical Analysis, the author starts from literature review in three aspects. Those are the industrial efficiency itself, the connection of FDI heterogeneity and industrial efficiency, and the relationship between industrial agglomeration and industrial efficiency. Then this paper tries to find out the mechanism between them. The result despites the spillovers of FDI can not only prompt industrial efficiency, but also scatter them. On another aspect, the mechanism of the impact of industrial agglomeration on industrial efficiency is similar, and the final result depends on the interactions of the two factors. Another find out of this paper is that the interactions of FDI and industrial agglomeration can also affect industrial agglomeration. In Experience Analysis, by using the panel data of Chinese manufacturing industry between years2001-2011. the author tries to explore the impact of FDI heterogeneity and industrial agglomeration on industrial efficiency in three aspects, i.e. in the overall level, from the viewpoint of different resourcing countries as well as in view of different technical content. The conclusion has confirmed the guesses based on mechanism analysis. Combined with those aspects of study.the paper argues that:first. FDI and industrial agglomeration can both prompt industrial efficiency of Chinese manufacturing industry, but industrial agglomeration is more pronounced in prompting industrial efficiency. Second, based on the viewpoint of different resourcing countries, investments from Hong Kong. Macao and Taiwan and other foreign countries (mainly from America.Japan. South Korea, the United Kingdom and Canada) both have an positive impact on Chinese manufacturing industn, while the impact is different. Third. in view of different technical content, it comes to the conclusion that FDI as well as industrial agglomeration can prompt the industrial efficiency in the high-tech industry, but they have a negatively impact in low-tech industry.
