Dry bulk shipping market is a perfect competition market and showing a strong periodic wave characteristic by external economic situation and other factors, so the dry bulk shipping market analysis and monitoring of the cycle could also to a certain extent help judge the global economic trend. Aim at the problem, in this paper, a set of global dry bulk shipping market index system is established.The main contents of this paper include: (1) Introduction of main methods of prosperity index compilation include Diffusion Index, Composite Index and an optimized Diffusion Index. After analyzing the dry bulk shipping market cycle wave characteristics and influencing factors, it is confirmed that the above three methods can be used for the construction of the indicator system. (2) According to the actual situation, the total 27 index were selected from four levels: supply, demand, price and cost of dry bulk market. And by using the K-L information method, these indexes are divided into Leading, Coincident and Lagging Index. Meanwhile, the weights of each index in different index system are set up. (3) Compilation of traditional Diffusion Index, optimized Diffusion Index and Composite Index of global dry bulk shipping market. Analyze the dynamic changes of the market prosperity based on empirical analysis of the last five years dry bulk shipping market.
