The Theory Analysis And Positive Research In The Diversification Of Shipping Company

Theoretical study of diversification can be traced back to 1957,when Ansoff clearly presented the content of diversifying management strategy for company in his book《diversification strategy》.After that time,the theory developed further,even popular.Since the 20th century,the diversified management theory has become a typical strategy,of company's development.Having a look at the history of large companies famous in the world,most companies grew up in the patterns of diversification.The shipping industry,especially the international shipping industry is accompanied by development of international trade.So the shipping industry is of a clear periodicity and uncertainty.The international financial crisis had a serious impact on the shipping industry in 2008.In this situation,Shipping companies should be diversified so as to disperse the development of operational risks or not,and how to choose a business model.It is a major issue.In this paper,firstly made a list of the theory of diversification in shipping companies,including analysis about the status of the shipping business,about motives, pros and cons of applying in shipping company.And then concluded that the close relationship between diversified shipping company and the core competitiveness.Then, pointed that the factors effecting diversified company were internal and external factors. And focused on the constrains to the diversified company.Afer that,on the basis of analysis on the diversified mode choosing of shipping company,this paper point out that the strategy of shipping company's diversifying its business,and mean time the implementation of the steps to work out and the industry to choose.Thirdly,take COSCO for example,made analysis and summaries about the successful implementation of the shipping company.And then we can drew on the experience. Fourthly,this paper selected a sample of 14 listed companies and collected three year data from annual report of 2006-2008.At last,this paper made a positive analysis on the correlation between the degree of diversification of the shipping company and the performance.And then made the conclusions for this paper.
