Current-mode circuits is popular as it offers high-speed performance, large bandwith, low distortion, low-voltage, low-power, and easily to realize multiple-valued logic circuits. However, In traditional digital algebraic system theory, there is lack for designing current-mode circuits methods. The traditional digital algebraic system theory didn't suitable for the characteristics of current signal algebra operations. Therefore, How to construct and put forward a new digital algebraic system theory which is suitable for current-mode circuits, has extremely important theoretical significance and practical value in the study of current-mode circuits.Bacause of the characteristics of current-mode circuits, which can easily realize arithmetic operations, the threshold-arithmetic operation and the nonnegative operation are defined in this paper, and the threshold-arithmetic algebraic system suitable to design current-mode circuits is established. Then, HE map is defined and used as the graphic representation of threshold-arithmetic functions, and by the design example of I2L circuits and current-mode CMOS circuits the method of converting traditional logic function to threshold-arithmetic function with HE map is expounded. At last, the binary and multivalued design method of I2L circuits and current-mode CMOS circuits based on threshold-arithmetic algebraic system and HE map is proposed. Furthermore, guided by the threshold-arithmetic algebraic system theory, this paper study to realize the threshold controlling in current-mode circuits, and the I2L circuits and current-mode CMOS circuits based on the threshold controlling are designed.The HSPICE simulation results using TSMC0.18p.m technology show that the designed current-mode circuits have the correct functions. The threshold-arithmetic algebraic system is a new simple and effective method for designing the current-mode circuits.
