Wireless sensor network is a high and new technology which is the integration ofseveral academic knowledge. It can both realize the remote wireless monitoring andcontrol in real-time and expand the ability of perceiving the objective and physicalworld directly for people through the acquisition of various information about the targetarea with a lot of cheap and low power consumption nodes that support self-organizingnetwork. The WSN's potential application value has attracted the high attention of themilitary field, academia and industry domestic and overseas at present. The thesis first gave an analysis about the current situation of the development ofwireless sensor network, and pointed out the key research such as energy efficientrouting technology, synchronization technology and data security technology etc. in thefield. The soft/hardware architecture was illustrated and the design characteristics withrequirements of the network routing protocol were put forward through analysing thenetwork properties and protocol stack in detail. The research on wireless sensor networkrouting protocol was carried out and the routing protocols were classified in differentclassification standards, furthermore, it gave a thorough analysis to the principles of thecommonly used routing protocol such as GEAR, GPSR, Flooding/Gossiping, SPINSand TEEN. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of the classical energyefficient routing protocol LEACH were showed through thorough analysis in the pointof principle and the source code.An energy-efficient wireless sensor routing protocol EECH that applys to industrialfield was proposed in the basis of LEACH according to the application characteristics ofindustrial field. The EECH protocol took full advantage of the idea such as nodeclustering and time solt distribution in LEACH and implemented the functions such asclustering, multi hop time slot distribution, node sleep, and data gathering etc..The NS2software was chosen as the simulation environment through the contrast analysis ofexisting simulation software, simultaneously, the core principles such as splitting modeland event scheduling mechanism etc. were thoroughly analysed in NS2. Then it took theLEACH protocol as an example to illustrate the way how to expand new protocols inNS2, moreover, the EECH and LEACH protocol was implemented and simulated. Thesimulation results had shown that the death time of the first node in EECH protocol wasextended to more than double of LEACH protocol. When most of the nodes died, theamount of received data of the base station node was more than twice as much as theLEACH protocol, which had verified the energy efficiency characteristic of EECHprotocol. Finally, according to point that the EECH protocol needed time synchronizationsupport, it gave a thorough analysis about the classic time synchronization algorithmssuch as RBS and TPSN etc. in principle. After researching several common timesynchronization simulation/experimental software environment in the current wirelesssensor field, the principles of the time synchronization software Simsync such as themessage delay model, the crystal model and events scheduling model was analyzed indetail. Then the RBS synchronization algorithm was selected as the synchronizationsupport in EECH and was implemented in Simsync, ultimately, the results withcomparison to several other simulation/experimental results proved the effectiveness ofRBS algorithm simulation in EECH.
