Wireless sensor network, integrated with the technology of sensing, embedded system and wireless communication, is one of the research hot-spots in recent years. With the wide spread of various wireless sensor network applications, the wireless sensor network performance measurement becomes an issue of concern to the industry. Due to the large quantity of sensor nodes in wireless sensor network and the inherent stringent bandwidth and energy constraints of sensor nodes, the traditional measurement methods, collecting sensor network performance statistical data from each individual sensor node and processing it at the sink node, is hard to apply to sensor networks any more, and this make the sensor network performance measurement facing many challenges.This thesis concentrates on the methods and methodologies of sensor network performance measurement. The main work and the innovations of the study include:Firstly, a data dissemination protocol named EEA, based on inhibition mechanism, was proposed, which dynamically adjust the frequency to inhibit unnecessary data transmission, and sleep according to certain rules to save node's energy. Moreover, EEA can achieve the energy balance to certain extents by introducing the parameter of remaining energy to choose sending nodes.Secondly, a novel and low-cost time synchronization algorithm named LTSP was proposed. LTSP accompanies the network time synchronization by two synchronization operations. The experiment results show that good accuracy with low cost could be achieved.Thirdly, a framework of distributed agent cooperation for wireless sensor network measurement was designed. Some approaches and models are also given to display the characteristic of simple, safe, small-flow measurement control and other advantages. Furthermore, versatility and scalability are provided, resulting in disposing conveniently in different network.
