Under the background of an increasing number of facilities of range of photoelectric theodolite while the device software still has quality problems after repeatedly revolutions, to adequately address the significance of quality improvement from the perspective of quality cost and contrast the gap between the related practice at home and abroad, a full-life-cycle quality improvement practice on optical theodolite device software is conducted based on a photoelectric theodolite developed for a base by Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics and Physics. In exploring the improvement of software quality, the paper mainly involves the following aspects:1. Starting from the quality relativity, investigate the root causes and solution of quality problems. Then, in the light of the localization features of the software development of the institute, thoroughly analyze along the three levels of development process, organization and corporate culture to explore the root causes of software quality problems, and propose a method of improvement on software quality.2. Under the premise of full comparison between the two assessment tools (verification and validation), find out their complementarity and then investigate the inadequacies of the existing development process and its modifications-V test model. In line with the principle of "test before the test" integrate it with the confirming model and develop it into the VV quality model. And localized the model according to the status quo of the institute.3. During the VV model project practice, on the basis of emphasizing assessment in strict accordance with the VV model, by improving the quality of the various stages of process we guarantee the quality of the VV model input. Through requirement engineering, ensure the integrity, consistency and normative of requirement specification; at the design stage, through reverse engineering learn the full advantages of the previous software to improve design quality; the introduction of version control means improve the visibility and controllability of the software in the coding phase; meanwhile taking into account the characteristic of the high cost in the maintenance phase of the past software, accomplish the software maintenance as a separate unit for discussion in order to increase the user participation in software maintenance. At the same time, tools are all introduced into the main phases, which greatly improves the effectiveness and convenience of the practice.Finally, through the SWOT analysis of this quality improvement of the software, reveal the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities and threats of the institute's improvement practice on software quality. At last we look into the future of software quality improvement and point out the struggling direction of small amplitude, continuous integration.
