Laser ranging is a technology that developing along with the development of the laser technology for precision measurement. It is using extensively in the military field and the civil field because of its high accuracy.This paper analyzed the pulse laser rangefinder and phase laser rangefinder, chose the pulse laser rangefinder as the research method because of high precision, low cost, simple structure. Then, used the self-triggering pulsed laser ranging theory to solution the contradiction that betweens traditional laser distance measuring accuracy to measuring speed, and proved the feasibility of system design by pulsed laser ranging model.Traditional pulse laser ranging often used CPLD to measure time interval, but it has defect likes low counting frequency and high random error, so this design used TDC-GP2 which instead of traditional programmable device to design time interval measure module. Through the propagation time delay of chip sector circuit to measure, it has higher time resolution rate, smaller counting error as traditional high-speed counter, so this design can reduce the circuit scale effectively and makes the ranging system more miniaturize.The fundamental hardware circuits are designed, used the MSP430 single chip microcomputer as control center, through it to control pulsed laser transmitter module and time difference measurement module, it read the data from GP2 and calculate, then display on the LCD. Analog circuit portion includes laser diode driver circuit, laser receiving and amplifying circuit, time discriminator circuit and APD high voltage biasing circuit; also described function of the ranging system hardware circuit in detail, then explained the working principle and performance parameters of them; finally, tested system prototype and analyzed the results, and find that it preliminary to meet the anticipated requirements.Used C language in the IAR Embedded Workbench, and completed controlling and data traffic between hardware. C language can improve work efficiency greatly, improve the reliability, readability and replanted of the program, it is convenient to continue perfecting and extending the design.This research completed the design of ranging system hardware circuit and debugging, finally discussed and summary this system for its improvement and defect.
