With the development of computer technology and the enhancement of the graphics processing ability, the virtual reality technology has a wide application in many fields such as the urban planning; the visualization simulation etc, especially for flight simulator applications it has important significance. Due to the more powerful of the aircraft function, the systems are more complicated, renewal was accelerated, so the method to use mixed building simulation unionizing simulation training system becomes hot topic both at home and abroad, and the training simulator research and development is also facing a huge challenge. Therefore establishing an economical, effective and safety training simulation training system for flight personnel's basic skill training has the extremely vital significance.On the base of researching the knowledge and key technology about the computer graphics, using the powerful open packages ---PpenGL and GLSL language, using VS2008 as developing platform, using the key technologies such as the large scale terrain data shows, big span terrain data format conversion and the modern graphics system texture technology, this paper constructs the flying pilot training virtual reality system according to the knowledge and technology researched.In this paper, first it is essential to achieve the needs of flying pilot training virtual reality system thorough investigation and analysis, then to put forward the system function requirements and the system differentiate function modules, and then to present system flow chart. Function structure model of flight pilot training simulation system is established using the concept of software engineering. Then this paper has done a more in-depth analysis for the real remote sensing terrain data acquisition, coordinates and conversion based on the latitude and longitude of terrain data to realize elevation data processing module function in the control of terrain data input. After these we have studied the terrain data representation method, the visibility judgment method based on the terrain data characteristics and the LOD algorithm based on terrain data characteristics, drew up a 3D terrain which has a extremely true feeling and consistent with real-world data, that providing a real simulation scene for the simulation system of the flying pilot training system. Finally we have researched the texture technology through the modern graphics system, realizing the function of surface texture processing modules, and combined with software development technology to achieve the flying pilot training virtual reality system, obtained the satisfactory practical running effect.
