Experiment is important for course teaching and is a skill need to grasp for student of engineering. In recent years, however, with the increase of college students, the number and scale of experimental facility is not enough to meet experimental demand. The college can't afford to increase and update instruments.Virtual instrument's technology can solve the problem on shortage of funds. By modifying software, the functions of instrument can be enhanced or reduced. Reusing in hardware helps to reduce funds and the experiments can improve the innovative ability of college students based on virtual instrument which is centre upon general computer. In this paper, several common instruments and experimental platforms are designed and developed in the environment of LabVIEW. The primary contributions of the dissertation are as follows:1. As for experimental facility, common instruments such as virtual oscilloscope, virtual function generator and digital filter are designed and realized. The functions of common instrument are analyzed and then the process of design is described. Test results are given to verify soundness. Here virtual oscilloscope is taken an example to explain how to design and realize instrument in detail.2. As for experimental platforms, platforms such as digital electronic technology and digital signal processing and analysis are designed and realized. Firstly, the principles on experiment are introduced. Secondly, according to principles mentioned above, the platforms are developed and tested. At last, the results are given. Here combinational logic circuit is taken an example to explain how to design and realize experimental platforms in detail.3. Considering data acquisition card with high price, we proposed the scheme on data acquisition using sound card in place of DAQ when samples rate is less than 44 kHz. The parameter's setup of functions on sound card in LabVIEW is introduced and the experimental platform based on sound card is designed and realized.In sum, integrating virtual instrument's technology into experimental construction is one of trends of college's laboratory in the future. Virtual instrument's technology is proved that it is suitable to experimental teaching.
