The active/passive millimeter wave detection system is a compound systems of radar (active) and radiometers (passive). At first, this paper describes the theory of active/passive compound detector. The target of search, recognition and tracking are carried out by radar of the millimeter wave detector in the far distance. When the range to the target is closer, the accuracy of detection is not exactly accurate, even the target is lost because of the radar target angular glint. While the passive radiometer can overcome this shortcoming, and the more important is that it dose not launch the electromagnetic wave, so it has the very high hiding and the very good resistance to interference. Therefore, active/passive millimeter wave detector is adapted to the accurate detection and precise identification of the center for targets well.Secondly, the algorithm of target recognition has been studied in this paper. Use the support vector machines (SVM) optimized by genetic algorithm (GA) to millimeter wave radiometer target identification the first time. The results show that SVM is superior to the other two kinds of neural network methods in prediction and anti-jamming performance, so that it can improve the accuracy of target recognition. Finally, the realization of active/passive millimeter wave detector engineering has been studied in this paper. Use the FPGA for active range measuring and DSP for the center of target identify, for the characteristics of the active/passive millimeter wave signal. And the hardware and software system has been designed by the method above. Then, as the experiment shown, the signal processing system designed above meet the following requirements:large amount of information, real-time and small size. For the actual circuit, integrity of high-speed digital signal has been studied.
