The High power and high-voltage pulse modulators have already been widely used in so many fields as radar, medicine, industry crack-detection, customs inspection, laser-induced fusion, industry radiation accelerator, and so on. Both of transmitters and RF amplifiers need high-voltage pulse modulators to provide suitable video pulse. Presently the need for modulators in industry radiation accelerator increases continuously, power handling is different and the demands on pulse modulators get heavier and heavier.The current technology status of modulators is analyzed. Based on an actual project of modulator used in industry radiation accelerator, according to modulator specifications the total scheme is made, and circuits, structure and cooling systems of modulators are designed. The structure, thermal and EMC design are deeply researched and analyzed. By computer software the cabinet and box of the modulator is 3D modeled and simulated, and digitalized prototype is designed and researched. Finally after adjusting, test and aging, the desired result is reached, which offers a good reference to the future design and develop of high power pulse modulators.
