In order to improve the safety of high-speed railway, greater efforts are needed to make on railway environment monitoring. The wireless sensor networks are studied deeply, and a railway safety monitoring system based on wireless sensor networks is designed, and the sensor network routing protocol is studied according to its specific demands and simulated.First, the railway control system requirements are analyzed, the overall structure and the function of each part of the disaster monitoring system are designed combining with the features of wireless sensor networks. then, a detailed description of the monitor application's operation processes and the monitoring sensor network's build are made. Then, different from the energy-saving features of existing sensor network routing algorithms, a Safety-Priority Threshold sensitive sensor Network protocol(SPTN) is proposed based on the study and analysis before. The model of the protocol network is designed, and then, SPTN cluster head distribution algorithm, cluster head election algorithm, vice cluster head election algorithm, network initialization, the election of cluster head and vice cluster head, build of routing and vice-routing, data transfer, disaster active alarm etc are realized based on the energy formula of free-space model. And a comprehensive analysis to the measures taken especially for disaster monitoring in SPTN are made. Finally, SPTN is modeled and simulated with OMNET++, its performance is compared with LEACH, a traditional routing algorithm, and the great availability of SPTN in railway disaster monitoring is proved.
