With the development of science and technology, more and more communication technique was applied on the automation systems of storage. As the RFID technology was successfully applied in storage, an emerging short-range communication technique, Zigbee, has been researched in this field. The storage location system which based on Zigbee was received more and more attention. The location accuracy was one of the key technologies of storage system. This paper mainly researched Zigbee technology and designed the storage location system.Firstly the characteristics and the application fields of the Zigbee technology was been introduced. According to the overall demand of the storage location system, the hardware structure of the positioning equipment was designed. With CC2431 as its microcontroller, the equipment also includes many interfaces, such as CC2591 radio amplification front end, wire communication module and data storage module. The equipment of location system equipment uses Zigbee protocol to realize wireless communication. Ranging model which based on RSSI was used to calculate the distance. Many kinds of location algorithm were simulated and the maximum likelihood method was chosed to realize the software location. Programming and debugging of each functional module was in the IAR development environment.Influences of different factors on RSSI were summarized through a lot of experiments. Comparing different filter algorithm, the ranging model was built up with filtered RSSI and blind node coordinate calculation was realized. The location precision of hardware method (CC2431 location engine) and software method (maximum likelihood localization algorithm) have been compared. The experiments indicate, location engine with simple operation, high integration, but location error is bigger. The improved software algorithm has higher precision and anti-interference, so the final choice of the storage location system is software algorithm.
