As an advanced and influential technology, Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) integrated sensor, microelectronics, wireless communication and modern network technology. It provides a new communication method between human society and physical world. Routing protocol has an important impact on the property of WSN. For the existence of resource limitation, dynamic topology change, local information based and data centric, it's more difficult and complicated to design routing protocols for WSN. In the first part of this paper, we introduce the basic concepts and characteristics of Wireless Sensor Network. We also elaborate the existing routing protocols by sorting their advantages and disadvantages. In the other part, we pay more attention to the research and improvement on LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) protocol of Wireless Sensor Network. The LEACH protocol is the first hierarchical routing protocol in WSN. In this paper, our analysis start with the system architecture, operating procedures, physical models and energy consumption models. For the blindness problem of cluster head election procession of LEACH protocol, we provide a new Information-Interaction-Based LEACH(IIB-LEACH) protocol. The improved protocol brings in a new information interaction method so as to find out a more optimal method of cluster head election. Through the new method, the number of elected cluster head will be more closed to the optimized number of cluster head in greater probability. At last, we run simulations in three kinds of simulation scene in NS-2. and the experiment results prove that the IIB-LEACH protocol can optimize the cluster head election, improve energy using efficiency and prolong the lifetime of the network.
