The rising applications of voice,multimedia and data services all have high demands of network performance parameters such as transfer bandwidth, delay, jitter and packet loss rate. However current best-effort Internet does not provide any QoS guarantees for voice and multimedia applications. Therefore, how to provide guaranteed, controlled, measurable QoS for real-time data stream has some practical significance on current best-effort IP network .The network equipment is the basic components of network elements,and it is also a carrying platform for a variety of services and applications. Any abstract QoS Strategy must be mapped to the network equipment's QoS configuration. Network end-to-end QoS ability is provided by the QoS mechanism of equipment of many different manufacturers,mainly routers. However network equipment manufacturers and models are different, and there is also a certain difference in the aspects of QoS support. If we can make unified management QoS configuration and issue QoS configuration combining business demand,which puts forward new challenges to network configuration management system.In response to these challenges,this paper introduces the design of QoS configuration management subsystem.It is an important goal to cover the difference of the devices and provide a united interface to the upper QoS server. The subsystem mainly completes two functions.It provides the functions of QoS configuration and data collection.The function of QoS service configuration is implemented in network devices by the QoS configuration mansgement subsystem and transformed into specific network equipment QoS configuration commands.The function of data collection collects data stream from each node or each interface of node on the link which provides the raw datafor optimization of network resources for the QoS server.In order to archieve the goals mentioned above and keep better scalability,the sub-system is designed to contain the logic of the configuration and data collection in some scripts which are out of the system's codes.The subsystem uses the telnet protocol to achieve QoS network device configuration management. Because telnet protcol is almost supported by all devices which also provides powerful configuration function.So that the users can centrally manage network devices without the need to use the network system comes with all manufacturers.This paper makes a detailed analysis of IP QoS mechanisms for mainstream routers with a large number of actual experimental tests. The relevant test in the self-developed large-scale high-definition video conferencing system Coolview of South China University of Technology further verifies the effectiveness of its QoS implementation.
