As embedded systems widely used in network communications, automotive electronics, healthcare, consumer electronics, aerospace, industrial control and other various fields, embedded systems has been widely known. Embedded system is famous for that its software and hardware can be tailored, the widespread application of internet prospers embedded development.As the same time, people need higher demand for the convenience of communication, they are not just satisfied with an ordinary voice telephone communication, market orientation has turned to the development of video communication for many years. Transmission of video is an important part of video network communication, widely used for the integrate of embedded systems and network makes the technology problem of video transmission greatly reduced.However, video communication requires a good network quality, how to transmit video smoothly in a limited bandwidth, this requires video data compression technology.After analysising and in-depth studying of a variety of embedded video processing platform, A video transmission scheme is designed which based on embedded Linux. The system hardware platform used Freescale's i.MX27 processor as the main control chip. It has an outstanding performance in the video codec. The hardware and software features of embedded system can be customized and tailored based on user demand. Peripheral circuits of the hardware platform has been customized according to user demand, and this article modifies and debugs the Linux driver of RS-485 interface module, audio module and lcd module,then transplants configured Linux systems to embedded system's hardware platform, each module of the system can work properly,At last, On the basis of hardware and software platform working properly, the software program of video transmission is coded. CMOS digital camera captures video data, the video data would be encoded by video processing unit (VPU) or Xvid,then sended to another terminal by Socket, the terminal recieves the video data and decodes it to show on the Qt which is a embedded GUI software, the application of video data' codec and transmission is realized.
