With the development of technology and the growth of people's needs, public safety has been increasingly attracting more attention. Thus, the video surveillance systems have been used for various applications. The video surveillance systems experienced two stages, from the analog surveillance to the digital surveillance. A new generation of digital surveillance technologies is developing toward two directions, which are the large-scale network monitoring and intelligent control. In the new generation of video surveillance system, the encoder terminal equipments have been widely adopted. The software of encoder system based on TI's TMS320DM368 processor is designed in this thesis, which is mainly used in a variety of encoder terminals.In the first chapter, the background and the significance of this topic are given and the development of video surveillance system is reviewed. Then, the functionality of the network video surveillance systems and the encoder terminal equipments, some related video coding techniques are introduced. Finally, the main content and the structure of this research thesis are presented.In the second chapter, the key technology in a video system is given including the following three parts:the video signal and video image format, the video signal capture technology, and the video data compression technology.In the third chapter, the DaVinci development environment, the DaVinci processor platform, the hardware architecture and the storage structure of the TMS320DM368 processor and the video processing subsystem VPSS are described. In the software aspects, the DaVinci development tools such as MontaVista Linux, the xDM and DVSDK are described.In the fourth chapter, the single-channel encoder system software is developed. First, the data stream of the encoder system software and frameworks are designed; then, the video capture driver software and the V4L2 driver framework are designed based on the the principle of hardware. After that, the application software of the single channel encoder system is designed including the initialization module, the video capture module, the interface of encoder module and the communication module. At last, the synchronization of threads and some additional features are designed.In the fifth chapter, the algorithms of video processing of the single-channel encoder system are developed, including the de-interlacing algorithm and the motion detection algorithm. Finally, the software system is tested on the actual hardware board and the effect of the de-interlacing algorithm and the motion detection algorithm are verified.In the sixth chapter, a summary of the single-channel encoder system is given and the future work to do is presented.
