The mobile telecommunication technology has entered the 3G era, the merge of the network structure of the 2/3G network is perfectly conducted nowadays. But due to the limitation of the network facilities and network structures, a number of problems still remain in the mobile soft-switching network. The most significant problems are:1. The resource utilization rate of the facilities is not even, the number of subscribers and the traffic could not be adjusted dynamically (tidal phenomenon).2. The lack of a practical and efficient network disaster recovery plan. In the R5 TS 23.236 the 3GPP has introduced the idea of MSC POOL solution, and soon become the focus of concern of the main operators.In this paper, the author first analyses the current status and shortages of the soft-switching network, analyses the possible resolves from the technical point, and then highlights the conception of MSC POOL. By introducing the contents of R5 TS 23.236, the author explains the principles, network structure, operation flow and the disaster recovery of the MSC POOL,In the second part of the paper, the author describes the practice of the MSC POOL construction project in Nanjing, which includes the demand analysis, project planning and project implementation. In the last part of the paper the author demonstrates the advantages of the MSC POOL technology in improving the utilization of the investment, saving the payment of the signaling, enhancing the performance of the network and increase the network ability of backup and disaster recovery.This paper, based on the combination of theory and practice, has discussed the feasibility of applying MSC POOL mode in current soft-switching network. It provides valuable experiences in project practice and network maintenance.
