Folksonomy And Its Application In University Library Work

Web 2.0 is a technology or an Internet environment. As Web2.0 grows, a new technology of Web 2.0 which allows people to organize Internet resources and share those resources by adding "tags" to them. People call this kind of technology "Folksonomy" and it allows people to explicitly describe the meanings or properties of Internet resources by adding "tags" of their own words. As a new technology, folksonomy develops fast and it is focused by many people. It costs little to organize huge amount of Internet resources effectively. As a newborn technology, the study on folksonomy is just started. This article made folksonomy as the study object, and discusses some basic theories and its application. The main purpose of this article is to discuss the basic theories of folksonomy by analyzing its concept, characteristics, functions and so on. Then to find a way in which folksonomy can serve readers of college libraries effectively.The author of this paper does a lot of work on document collections and investigated related work which was done by former researchers. This paper begins with summarizing the concept, meanings, characteristics, types, functions and usages of folksonomy. Then do some work on theories research. Next is an instance study on a Chinese social web site, Douban, is carried out. The author collects a lot of typical tags and the books which those tags gathered. It comes to several characteristics of folksonomy, such as the properties of tags, the strong points and short points of folksonomy in practical usage by quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. Meanwhile, Penn Tags is introduced to readers and the author summarizes the the strong points and short points of folksonomy in practical usage in university libraries. This paper treats of the foundations and feasibilities of folksonomy in practical usage in university libraries.This paper analyzes the application foundations, feasibility and benefit of folksonomy impractical usage takes Zhijiang College of Zhejiang University of Technilogy for example. And it introduces the library resource organization and management system which is based on folksonomy take the feature of students in Zhijiang College as a point of departure. And the author design a system by composite above mentioned in order to improve the utility ratio of library network station of Zhijiang College, and to make users concern to this network station. It can also encourage users to share resources and exchange and interdynamic with each other on this platform. This system can combine folksonomy with library routine work, expand library network service and promote the development of folksonomy.
