This paper stems from the cooperative projects of Chongqing Jinmei communication company, Ltd. and Chongqing University,"Broad band mobile Ad Hoc network control unit and its operating system research", and the Chongqing NSF project,"Research on mobile Ad Hoc network route protocol". This paper plans to study and explore architecture, MAC protocol, and route protocol of mobile Ad Hoc network, and then emulates three types of representative route protocol in NS-2. With comparison and analysis of the emulating results, it represents the performance report of three protocols, which will finally support the design implementation of route protocol in the projects.The main work and achievements of this paper are summarized as follows:1. It provides a comprehensive background of mobile Ad Hoc network: from its incentive and philosophy to the state of the art and future development.2. It represents the system goal of mobile Ad Hoc network constructed by the control unit. Based on this goal, it analyzes and research on the system architecture and critical technique items, provides the architecture of system topology and network protocol.3. With analysis and research on three kinds of MAC method, namely CSMA, TDMA and virtual carrier access control, it proposes a new media access control method: hybrid TDMA (HTDMA).4. Based on the comprehensive analysis and study on different routing methodologies proposed in the MANET research field, it selects three representative protocols for emulation next step.5. With emulation of AODV, DSDV and DSR, it provides detailed analysis and discussion of emulation results, and finally gives a proposal of route protocol suited for projects.
