Virtualization is one of the hot technologies in current IT industry, and its objective isto make physical computer or its components running in virtual environment to improveresource usage. Nowadays many enterprises are deploying large amounts of Servers inData Center to support more and more complex applications and data processing, but theyare also troubled with issues of high maintenance cost, low average resource usage andenergy consumption, so Server's Virtualization has been concerned much. UNIX ServerVirtualization has not been widely applied in the domestic with less reference cases by now,and there will be broad prospects. This thesis launches the research of Data CenterVirtualization for above factors.HP-UX Servers are popular UNIX Servers in current Data Center for features ofpower computing and reliability. HP IVM (Integrity Virtual Machine) is the leadingVirtualization technology for HP-UX Servers. Based on deep research on IVM technologyand Server Virtualization requirements from an actual Data Center transformation project,this thesis chooses HP-UX Server as representative, and designs IVM Virtualizationsolution with deployment and implementation. By later virtual systems going live normally,the project target is achieved successfully, which will be a good reference and positivesignificance for later Data Center Virtualization development, maintenance cost reductionand new generation "Green Data Center" construction. By analyzing theory and features of IVM technology from aspects of CPU, Memory,Network and Storage, the thesis describes methods of virtualizing one physical HP-UXServer into some independent systems based on IVM, to improve the resources usage.An actual Data Center transformation project is introduced later. The target is to solveproblems from increasing large amounts of servers in Data Center, also decreasemaintenance cost. After resource assessment and requirements analysis, the thesis designsthe detailed IVM technology solution and configuration strategy oriented by virtualization.To make it operational, this solution is developed in-depth by designing configurationTable and refining deployment specifications. With detailed installation, configuration andonline migration steps, the thesis presents full IVM implementation progress.Finally, IVM solution is verified by testing cases from four sections: functions, datamigration, performance and application. The result shows IVM implementation is simple;resource adjustment is flexible; Virtual Machine's performance is close to the relatedphysical server. Based on above, IVM solution can meet the application requirements.Data Center Virtualization not only conducts dynamic, adaptive, flexible and effectivevirtual computing environment, but also provides more economic and practical deviceenvironment with rapid deployment, and improves the resource usage also controls the cost,which will be Data Center's direction. Some enterprises expect virtualization but worryabout its technology. The research of IVM Technology in this thesis has strongpracticability. The total design and implementation solution is detailed and confident, alsoincludes full verification cases, which will be well referred in later Data Centervirtualization construction.
