Our nation is on the turning point of the transformation from labor-intensive industry to information & technology-intensive industry by means of information-based construction. As one of the advanced automatic identification technology, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is one of the information technologies which can be integrated with enterprises' existing IT system. Meanwhile it enhances enterprises'capability of automatic data capture. It's great promotion on the comprehensive improvement of warehouse management with RFID technology's popularization and application.This paper takes RFID technology as an object of research. It begins with understanding the technical principle, and illuminates the great power of automatic data capture of this technology. After introduces the big improvement of enterprises' business achieved from successfully RFID application in European and US countries, analysis the real situation of RFID application in Chinese market, this paper raises the initiative of RFID application in domestic warehouse enterprises. The design for the RFID enabled cargo tracking information system is done successfully step by step based on the analysis of the real business of one of the warehouse center.Firstly, this paper introduces the basic concept and operation principle of RFID, compares popular automatic identification technologies, and outlines top 3 technical standard system, refers the application area of RFID and states the its market possibility around the world. Because of this, the important breakthrough point is identified on analyzing and designing the RFID based cargo tracking information system for domestic warehouse enterprises.Secondly, this paper elaborates what is warehouse center and its primary business flows, especially on stock-in business, stock-out business and stocktaking and warehouse control business. It also analyzes the key link by utilizing business flow diagram which prepares for the detail function design. Besides, it analyzes how to construct RFID sub-system and chooses the hardware devices for this sub-system. It takes advantage of the programming interface provided by manufacturer and conducts user-defined subroutine development. Eventually the RFID sub-system is integrated into the primary application system by implementing the control method on RFID hardware devices.After that, the system architecture design is carried out by adopting the fundamental rules of software design including modularization, standardization, simplifications and practicability, and determines the system operation platform, development tool and database development tool. The system module compartmentalization is done according to the output of business flow design and comes up with corresponding primary software modules. Basing on above, the database design is revealed by bringing forward the concept model (E-R Diagram) and logic model (relational object definition).Subsequently, this paper provides the system software design. This section of this paper designs common database operation programming interface which makes the system module division much more clear and the system functionality is easier to be implemented with much more efficient coding. This section of this paper also demonstrates the system modules coding design and system user interface design, which realizes all the primary functionalities defined in requirement identification phase.At the end of this paper, while a few innovations are identified very clearly, some of the weakness and problems of this system are explained as well, such as the communication security, application cost down and compatibility, in order to expand and enhance the system capability in the future.
