It is mainly used in fast data packet switching and routing, and provides for network data traffic the target, routing, forwarding and switching abilities, etc. More specially, it has the mechanism that manages different forms of traffic flow. MPLS is independent of the second and third layer agreements, and with the features of the layer 2 switching and layer 3 routing, organically combines the second layer link frame agreement and the third layer routing forwarding technology. It offers a method which can map the IP address into simple labels with fixed length and is used in different packet forwarding and packet switching technologies.
