Study On Multi-Protocol Label Switching And Its Application Of Virtual Private Network

MPLS ( Multi-Protocol Label Switching ) is a new network technology that use a fixed label (32bit) leading data to transmit and switch at a high speed. Because of the efficiency, the development of MPLS is very rapid since its appearance in 1997. The technology of MPLS is developed from combining the advantages of connection-oriented technology ATM and connectionless technology IP, its value is able to import a connection model into a connectionless network.MPLS does not take place of the IP, but enhances it.This thesis systemically discusses the concept, the basic principle, signaling protocols of MPLS and its three applications-QoS(Quality of Service), TE(Traffic Engineering) and VPN(Virtual Private Network).VPN is the crucial application, which attracts attentions of more and more Service Providers and Product Providers. This part comprises the background, advantages and several different realizations of MPLS VPN, discusses the challenges the MPLS VPN technology faced. Combining practice application and surrounding several key problems that must be notedduring the construction, dissertates the blue print and construction proposals of Zhe Jiang Telecom MPLS VPN project, such as the setting of Route Reflect(RR), the setting of RT/RD (Routing Target/Route Distinguisher), the adjust of route system, realization of MPLS VPN with Internet access, QoS of MPLS VPN and network management system. In the end, the paper analyses the present problem and discusses the development prospect of MPLS.
