Along with the fast development of telecommunication network all over the world, many big companies argue the issue how to expand their huge networking systems to provide various of increment business, which is one of the hottest topics recently in the whole communication industry. Compared with the world's rapid progressing mackets for such increment business, the domestic macket has just started, but the technologies we utilized to undertake such business are the most advanced ones. The MPLS VPN technology discussed in this paper is just one example. In the 21st century, the virtual private network (VPN) will be deployed more and more by the service provider. Currently there are two kinds of VPN constructing technology, that is Overlay VPN and MPLSVPN. Overlay VPN requires that the tunnel or encryption should be applied in the IP, ATM and Frame Relay networks. This kind of technology is based on the point to point connection and needs to configure every tunnel or PVC. The MPLS VPN can separate different data flows that belong to the different VPN and can provide the enough confidential without need to establish the tunnel or encryption. MPLS VPN provide service tousers, while FR/ATM just provide the user data transfer function. The whole paper contains four parts:Chapter 1:"Principles and Applications related in VPN Technology". This chaper mainly introduced the concept, working principle and related technologies of VPN, and also discussed the management of VPN.Chapter 2:"Multi-Protocol Label Switching-based VPN".This chaper and chapter 3 are the main parts of the thesis.This part discussed the theory and application of MPLS at first,then discribed the MPLS VPN working principle in contrast with the Overlay VPN.Chapter 3:"Building and testing MPLS VPN in laboratory".This chapter discussed the test of the performance of the MPLS VPN by designing and building some special experiments in the laboratory.The test results prove the excellent performance of the MPLS VPN,and these results guaranteed that such technology can work well in the real world. Chapter 4:"Putting the MPLS VPN in practice".This chapter mainly discribed how the MPLS VPN was provided to the enterprise by the Service Provider. In writing this paper,I refered to many related stuff,especially the RFC documents.Due to the limitation of my research skills and the relatively short time, there must be some flaw in it. I would be honoured and thankful to receive the guidence and criticism.
