Research Of Contingent Valuation Method In Library Value Assessment

Library science has been focusing on the evaluation of the merits of library which is not a profitable organization from the angle of the economics and the statistics. Most of domestic and overseas experts have kept attention to this issue for long. CVM presents the incredible superiority on evaluating the value of an article. So far the cost-benefit analysis is an effective measure of evaluating the merits of library.CVM provides a supposed market, in which investigatees fix a price for the literature resource and the service of library. This thesis employs the measure of inquiring the readers that how much they willingness to pay for the literature resource and the service of library, or how much they willingness to accept compensation for giving up the service of library. Thus it can be found out that which one the readers prefer. This thesis, based on the primary studies, uses the researches of CVM applied in the overseas libraries for reference and makes HFUT library as the example. The author applies WTP to evaluate the value of HFUT library and inclination of the readers and to analyze the cost-benefit of HFUT library through the cost-benefit proportion.The thesis makes an introduction to the theory of CVM, including the basis, the measures, the principles and the working process of CVM. Especially, the warp of CVM in operation and calculating is considered. The thesis also makes study on the traditional methods, on the strongpoints and the shortcomings of CVM. The validity and feasibility of CVM is studied by combining the restricting factors of CVM with the features of library's commonweal, and then educe that CVM is becoming the trend to evaluate the merits of domestic libraries.The thesis conducts a qustionaire about the pay willings of CVM on HFUT library, the statistics of software spss18 are applies into the cost-benefit analysis of library. the total value of readers' willings of HFUT library is concluded.The thesis suggests the mode of investigation in which the CVM is applied into the value evaluation of library. The thesis confirms the applicability of CVM, the problems of CVM in application, and the significance of the mode. The thesis finally summarizes the results and the shortcomings of this research, and makes suggestions and prospect for the development of CVM.
