Since innovative technology FPGA was put forward by Xilinx Company in 1984, FPGA has gone through nearly 30 years. After over 20 years'development, FPGA has become the first choice of programmable logic devices on the electronic design applications market, and it is also one of the mainstream platforms for the digital system design.The Xilinx Company also grows dramatically in the technology wave, with more than 50% global market share currently, and becomes the world's largest FPGA chip maker and the world's leading supplier of programmable logic complete solutions, and dominates one of the fastest growing areas in the semiconductor industry—the programmable logic device (PLD) market, even including non-FPGA suppliers. Xilinx also can make the Top 10 in the chip architecture suppliers, following the world-renowned manufacturers such as Intel, ARM, etc.To meet the development trend of integrated circuits, the major of measurement and control technology in our school has opened FPAG course, therefore, it is very necessary to design a complete and practical FPGA experimental teaching system suitable for our school.By referring to a large number of documents and studying the experimental teaching experience of FPGA in universities abroad, this paper, in accordance with the application-oriented needs of our teaching and teaching undergraduates'requirements of FPGA, researches and develops a experimental board of FPGA equipped with teaching experiments, which is suitable for teaching the undergraduate and makes it a complete FPGA experimental teaching system. This paper gives a systematic introduction to the basic principle of the FPGA chip, its basic architecture, and performance characteristics. It also introduces resources of XC3S500E chip and the function of the external extension module in detail, and mainly describes how the system is designed and how to build hardware platform. Meanwhile, according to each function module of the development system function modules, the author designs a series of typical FPGA teaching experiment. All these experiments, by introducing some typical modules, make the undergraduate learn how to achieve the function of each module by configuring the FPGA chip as soon as possible. Through studying the experimental development board, the undergraduate can contact and understand the Xilinx's chips early, get familiar with FPGA development process in order to engage in FPGA-related work directly after graduation.The experimental system is based on the development environment ISE self-developed by Xilinx, the experiment routine uses Verilog hardware description language, and the experiment contents progresses from the basic experiment to innovative experiment gradually, which not only meet the experiment requirements of teaching the undergraduate, and combine the theoretical knowledge with practical ability closely to so equip the student with certain practical abilities, comprehensive testing skills, and a preliminary master of some FPGA design methods, but also can fully mobilize the enthusiasm of students and cultivate students'interest and ability of independent innovation in the FPGA.
