With the rapid development of railway business, a large number of air-conditioned trains are put into operation to improve the environment of the carriages. However, due to the density of crew, operating state of air-conditioning and other factors, interior environment sometimes can not meet the requirements, and even discomfort to passengers and staffs. Therefore, it's necessary to research environmental monitoring system of railway carriages, so as to improve the environment of the carriages, amenity of passengers, and increase economic benefits.It researches and designs environmental monitoring system of railway carriages, using sensors, field bus, computer communication and other technologies. The whole system is a series network which composed by multi-carriages and based on subsystem. The subsystem is a distributed system of data acquisition based on temperature, humidity, carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, formaldehyde and alcohol, using appropriate sensor for data acquisition, MCU as slave computer for data processing, high-performance PC as master computer for monitoring, CAN bus for data transmission. The whole system is implemented by using NIC communication technology, socket, and Client/Server model.The distributed system of data acquisition bases on bus architecture, slave and master computer. It designs and implements a number of environmental parameters acquisition, processing, displaying, alarming, recording, querying, printing and curving, also achieves carriage node initialization, node state recognition, target node data monitoring and other functions between carriages, using windows as operating system and VC6.0 as software development platform.The system achieves intended purpose and warning of environmental hazards by online monitoring, reminds workers to take effective measures to control, and provides technical support to develop standards for the environmental sectors. It's meaningful to improve the environment, service quality and promote the great development of the railway. Additionally, it has portability and scalability, so other parameters can be measured by changing front-end modules of data acquisition, the system can provide reference to environmental protection, storage, agriculture, forestry and industrial production.
