Chinese calligraphy is the essence of traditional Chinese culture. With the over-reliance on the keyboard and mouse in this technology-drive era Chinese calligraphy practical function is weakened. People's ability to write is a gradually degraded in people's ability for writing and the function of Chinese calligraphy is weakened, the children were shocked more, the majority of students do not have solid basic skills of writing. In advocating non-paper's era, to re-examine Chinese calligraphy education in our primary school and revive traditional culture is very necessary and urgent. In August2011, the Ministry of Education documentation requires to set Chinese calligraphy as a compulsory class in primary schools. Though many provinces and cities have taken some reform measures on Chinese calligraphy education before it, there are no effective affects. As the capital of the country, Beijing plays a leadership role in many respects. Writing class had been set as a required course, once a week, in primary school of Beijing, since2006, from the third to the sixth grade. More than five years later, how do the progress of Chinese calligraphy education? The author of this article tries to use methods of questionnaire and interview to investigate this problem in Beijing's primary schools, and to identify problems, analyze the reasons. In addition, I also carry out a case study on remarkable T-primary school about Chinese calligraphy education in Beijing.I hope to find some reference to Chinese calligraphy education in primary school from this study.Methods used in this article, include observation, questionnaires and interview. The application of different research methods ensures this paper comprehensive and three-dimensional in theory's sorting and investigation. The research on Chinese calligraphy education in Beijing's primary school is carried out by majority using of questionnaire and interview. The method of literature searching is mainly used in the collecting and collating of relevant information in the part of evolution of Chinese calligraphy education in primary school in this paper, as well as in the case study on the T-primary school. The method of observation is mainly used on the process of researching the T-primary school, including the campus environment, teachers, classroom instructions, small Chinese calligraphy class, student's performance and other aspects of experience, observation, recording and analysis.This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the preface including the writing reason and significance of this research, the definition of the primary concepts relevant to Chinese calligraphy education, the literature review of primary school calligraphy education, and the summary of the thesis research methods.The second part is children's Chinese calligraphy education in ancient and modern era. Through the evolution of Chinese calligraphy education in the period of ancient and modern era, I sort out the historical development context of Chinese calligraphy education in primary school. Chinese calligraphy education in primary school still plays an important role, even if some changes in the modern era, including writing instruments change, and can not be discarded.In the third part, through the analysis of completed questionnaires, I found that although Chinese calligraphy in primary school in Beijing was carried out earlier and the more emphasized by education department, there are still many problems on teacher, textbook, parent, student and so. I analyze the cause of problems of Beijing primary school calligraphy education from the multiple perspectives of the social atmosphere of national policy, school, parent, and student and so on.The forth part is about the case study of the T-primary school, including the profile of Chinese calligraphy education in T-primary school; the foothold and starting point of Chinese calligraphy education in T-primary school; ways of implementation of Chinese calligraphy education in T-primary school; outcomes of Chinese calligraphy educational in T-primary school; problems of Chinese calligraphy education in T-primary school, and revelation of Chinese calligraphy education in T-primary school.Part Ⅴ of this paper is suggestions to strengthen Chinese calligraphy education in primary school. I hope that from this part other primary schools can get some useful references in Chinese calligraphy education.
