The emergence of language and characters led human beings into an era of civilization. The Chinese characters, as the carriers of the Chinese culture, help the Chinese civilization develop and spread effectively. Calligraphy, as one of assessment standards for talents, has been attached great importance in each successive dynasty of ancient China. Therefore Chinese people gradually developed their own unique aesthetic thoughts of calligraphy and a perfect systematic training system that makes calligraphy a dazzling pearl in Chinese traditional culture and the precious wealth in human civilization. It stands erect in the forest of world art with her unique beautyIn recent years, with the rapid development of China’s economy, and the great improvement of people’s material life, a consensus has been reached that "We, Chinese, should carry forward Chinese national culture and promote national spirit" Thus calligraphy, as an important part of Chinese traditional culture, has received great attention. As early as in 2011, China’s Ministry of education issued The Proposals on the development of calligraphy education in primary and secondary schools which require that calligraphy education go into the classrooms, especially in Chinese classes, in all the primary and secondary schools in our country. Its purpose is to start to develop the students’ writing ability, improve their cultural accomplishments, foster their all-round development from their childhood and from specifics in its practice so that we, Chinese, can avoid the embarrassment of awkward Chinese hand-writing. For this reason, the campaign of calligraphy going into the classrooms in the primary and middle schools is of great importance. However, in the environment of the exam-oriented education, how is the program of "calligraphy going into the classrooms" going? What are the troubles with the program? With these questions, the author conducts a survey on the current situation of "calligraphy going into the classrooms" in the primary and middle school. The following six sections make up his essay on it.Part I Looking back on ancient Chinese calligraphy education. In ancient China, the art of writing was attached great importance at the beginning of the creation of the Chinese characters: the signs of the training and education in writing appeared in the symbols carved in the painted pottery and the inscriptions in oracle bones reveal; specific official institutions responsible for teaching people the art of writing established in the Qin and Han Dynasties. In Tang Dynasty, private education and official education, home education developed independently, but at the same time complemented each other and promoted each other, forming a complete system of calligraphy education. Calligraphy was attached such great importance both in the selection of personnel and in the assessment of officials that Chinese calligraphy education reached its peak at this time, leaving future generations a feast of art.Part II The revelation of contemporary campaign of "calligraphy going into the classrooms" and calligraphy education. It points out that the top priority of the campaign should focus on the training of writing and that its basic goal is to improve students’ ability of writing Chinese characters that is closely related to the aesthetics and culture in calligraphy. It also clarifies the difference and connection between ordinary writing and calligraphy in order to achieve targeted goal to help the students not merely inherit and spread the traditional culture but adapt to the cultural background in the information age, also develop nationalistic emotions.Part III The significance of the contemporary campaign of "calligraphy going into the classrooms" in primary and middle schools. The calligraphy not only can help the children improve their cognitive ability by writing Chinese characters, appreciate the beauty of Chinese characters, also help them obtain the quality of strong will and noble manners by cultivating calmness and the peace of mind, dedication, persistence, perseverance, endurance in them by practice calligraphy. In a word, calligraphy is a practice of writing, of calming down, of having a peaceful mind and of keeping going forward.Part IV The survey on the current situation of the campaign of "calligraphy going into the classrooms," in the primary and secondary schools in Chengde city. Chengde city is in the north of Hebei and it has a reputation of "historical and cultural city". However, the campaign of "calligraphy going into the classrooms" isn’t going smoothly. The public, parents, teachers and students all agree that a Chinese should write Chinese characters well and that calligraphy should be in the classrooms, but when there comes a choice between calligraphy classes and other classes, calligraphy classes will surely be given up, therefore many schools seemingly have calligraphy classes in the curriculum, in fact, they appear only in the curriculum, they can’t go into the classrooms, which a gambit of schools to pass inspection. Worse still, there isn’t a team of professional calligraphy teachers in Chengde city, which directly restricts the effective implementation of the calligraphy going into the classrooms. Teachers are the main force of education, students are the subjects of education, teaching activities cannot go on without either of them. Without a team of competent calligraphy teachers, how can the campaign of calligraphy going into the classrooms be implemented? It’s true that this problem can’t be solved overnight and that it can’t be solved by the schools themselves only.Part V The problems with the implementation of the campaign of "calligraphy going into the classrooms" in Chengde city. The main problem is the imperfect system. Our country did not explicitly list the calligraphy training in the basic category of the national education, nor was the students’ writing level included in the evaluation of their performance, so it wasn’t attached much importance. In addition, the extreme lack of calligraphy teachers is restricting the calligraphy from going into the classrooms, the hardware. Without teachers, teaching activities would not exist. What’s more, the schools’ negligence of calligraphy education to pursue high entrance rate in the premise of exam-oriented education, and the huge impact of the increasing popular keyboards on writing, are marginalizing calligraphy education, and become the unfavorable restricting factors. These problems are both regional and national and worth pondering.Part VI Some Suggestions. To ensure the implementation of the activity in Chengde city, it is necessary for schools to completely change the ideas first. They should realize the importance of calligraphy and carry out the policy explicitly. At the same time, they should realize that their priority is to build a team of calligraphy teachers, because all good students are from good teachers and inferior teachers will surely ruin their students. True, we cannot rely solely on administrative departments of education to build a team of professional calligraphy teachers, we also need the support and cooperation from governments, personnel departments, financial departments, etc. Moreover, extra-curricular training should be encouraged, private schools should be supported, for they are also boosting the implementation of the calligraphy into the classroom. The activity of calligraphy going into the classroom benefits the nation, the people, and will benefit the future generations. Though its implementation in some regions and even the whole country is unsatisfactory, we firmly believe that the spring of the "calligraphy going into the classroom," will come, and that the Chinese people will be able to writ good Chinese characters in the future!...
