Reading teaching is one of the emphasis and difficulties in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The lessons improve the learners'communicative competence by the "reading", which is the specialized skill training. Between foreign language reading teaching and the common ones, there are great many differences in learners'background and purpose, the environment, the writing system and the rates of new words.Every link is around the reading materials, that is the decisive part of teaching. So, there is a crucial impact in the reasonable preparation and the choice of reading material reading text content for learners to improve their reading ability.The mid-level reading teaching has been select as the focus of study, for the following reasons:First, when the learners'level has been the mid-level, the reading abilities become to the focus of training. At the same time, it is also the important period, in which learners improve their abilities of reading and communication. The mid-level reading teaching must take the responsibility of the training for these abilities.Then, the mid-level reading teaching is also a connecting link between the primary and the advanced levels. It plays an important role in relation to raise the overall level of learners'communicative competence.In addition, the researching of how to select materials especial for the intermediate is much less at present. In this situation, it needs to be further strengthened.The thesis consists of four chapters and the conclusion.The first chapter is the introduction. It mainly points out the background and the significance, the emphasis and the difficulties, the main methods and the innovation.The second chapter mainly reviews the current research status of the foreign language reading and the materials, and makes the writing of the English reading textbook as circumstantial evidence. This classification of theories became the bedding for the following words. Then, it discusses the characteristics of the mid-level learners and the reading teaching, and summarizes the aims and the contents of teaching especially for the mid-level. In the above mentioned based, it sorts out the important principles of compiling for selecting materials.The third chapter compares and analyses three kinds of mid-level reading textbooks, which has been chosen as the typical ones. And form the feature, the experience in the selection has been summarized.The fourth chapter is based on the statistics,the analysis and the comparison for the questionnaire of selection. And, it also contrasts between different learners for their habits, preferences and needs on reading textbooks selection. Try to find out the relationship between the group differences and the different aspects of selection. Finally, it makes some suggestions for the compilation.The research of this article is summed up in the conclusion, which presents the difficulties and the deficiency of the research. And it also shows the prospect of the compilation.In the current situation, the using of reading materials plays a vital role in improving the learners'reading abilities. Many researchers have done a lot of paper for that. But, the relationships between the selection and the ability, especially in the intermediate stage as a most important task, did not get enough attention and concern. That is the focus of this paper, and also it is the innovation point.
