This thesis investigates the teaching and learning of Business English Correspondence Writing in the context of Chinese vocational schools. The research gives out to students and teachers in a number of vocational schools in Jiangsu province questionaires made up by 50 questions and carries out interviews with them on over two dozen questions. The results of the investigation point to five key problems in the teaching of current-day Business English Correspondence Writing in our vocational schools: The foundation of students'knowledge of general English and business is weak; The quality of teaching remains poor; The teaching materials and facilities remain inadequate; The styles and contents of classroom teaching often go beyond the level of vocational students; Much of the knowledge taught in this course is not oriented towards practical use.These problems are due to the indifference on the part of vocational schools and course teachers to the true reality of the students. While this is not a problem to be solved overnight, this thesis proposes that vocational students need to be taught in accordance with their aptitude and it also suggests the use of templates for the teaching of different kinds of Business English Correspondence Writing. After the trial of templates in my own school, it is found that students make much greater progress in class behavior and performance when taught in this way and they are more interested in this subject and are eager to learn more.
