Objects:1. To evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Life Skill Profile-39(1SP-39) in patients with schizophrenia and to explore the factors correlated with social functions.Methods:1.Totally200out-patients and in-patients meeting the DSM-IV-TR criteria for schizophrenia were entered in the study.Ten of subjects was included the intra-rater reliability training. The Personal and Social Performance scale (PSP) was used to investigate the validity of the Chinese version of the Life Skill Profile-39, and the Positive and Negative Rating Scale was used to assess the severity of disease to explore the correlative validity, in the other200subjects twenty-one days after the first LSP-39interview, LSP-39was evaluated to assess the test-retest reliability among twenty-five subjects again.2. We evaluate its clinical application among296Patients by the Chinese version of Life Skill Profile-39.Results:1. The internal consistency (Cronbach α=0.68~0.84) and the inter-rater reliability (Kappa=0.61) were good. The test-retest reliability was high (ICC=0.92).The scale showed good construct validity with statistically significant correlations with The Personal and Social Performance scale (PSP)(ICC=0.88). The Chinese version of the Life Skill Profile-39total score had a good negative correlation with the PANSS total score (r=-0.37,P<0.01).2. Among all factors of non-treatment,patient's social function is significantly correlated with the social support, age, education and marriage status. This study shows that patients with good social support, advanced degrees and being married have high scores on LSP-39.Patient's social function is significantly correlated with the medicine, therapy compliance and hospitalization time in the last five years among all the treatment factors. The research shows that the people who having atypical antipsychotics, outpatient treatment, shorter hospitalization time and better therapy compliance have better social function.Conclusions:1.The Chinese version of the Life Skill Profile-39is a convenient and valid instrument to assess the social functions of out-patients and in-patients with schizophrenia.2. We suggest that early intervention, social support and treatment method are strategies of improvement of social functions of patients with schizophrenia.
