Backgroud : Dental caries, also known as tooth decay or cavity, is a disease where bacterial processes damage hard tooth structure and lead to tooth hard tissue changes in color, shape, texture. These tissues progressively break down, producing dental cavities . It is a common oral diseases and frequently-occurring disease and also is a popular kind of chronic disease of human being , and one of the main diseases of affecting the health of children , and there is great harm on human oral. It is reported that the incidence of caries is generally around 60% in children, and therefore, the World Health Organization considers caries as a harm disease to human health of the world's three major diseases (cardiovascular disease, cancer, dental caries) ,In 1957, caries, periodontal disease, oral and maxillofacial deformities and defect deformityas were considered as the three major research projects in China. Dental caries is not only to make children feel pain and effecting chewing food, digestion and absorbing nutrients but also may cause pulpitis, periapical, and which affects the normal development of jaw, dental arch and perhaps leads to permanent malalignment, the children suffer, affecting children's health and growth. Dental caries takes trouble and sorrow to the parents, and as China's economic development and improvement of people's living standards, and caries happen rise, it is reported that children in our country caries reach up to 60% -95%. As the primary and secondary students in a special period of the growth and development, and alternating stages of primary teeth and permanent teeth, these children's living habits, eating habits, oral hygiene habits and so on have not reached awareness level of adult. In recent years, Many scholars have done a lot of research work and found that poor diet, poor oral life factors highly associated with caries prevalence but currently there is no related information on the prevalence of children suffering caries and lack of the preventive measures of caries in Changchun. Objective To understand the prevalence of caries in children in Changchun and explore disease-related factors for the prevention and treatment of caries In Changchun area to provide epidemiological evidence. Methods According to the requirements of a sample survey of the third national oral health epidemiology and health education and taking a cluster sampling method and randomly selecting the surveys in three middle schools and three primary schools in Changchun , and three middle schools and three primary schools in suburbs of Changchun, total of 1000 students for 10 to 15 years old and surveying their personal basic situation, behavior habit, awareness level of oral health of parents, systemic factors, habits and customs, caries happening to relationship with their parents, and as well as the degree of attention on caries data to survey and analysis statistical data. Results 1. In the checks of all children, the overall Caries prevalence rate is 51.77%,and 10 years, 11 years, 12 years, 13 years, 14 years, 15 years old respectively caries rates were: 62.71%, 57.58%, 53.27%, 42.64%, 47.92%, 52.94%. As the age increases, the caries prevalence rate for 10 - 12 years old children is downward trend , but for 13-15 years is upward trend , statistically significant (p<0.05).2. The statistical test: children get caries prevalence is higher in urban (55.53%) than in rural (48.83%) and there is significantly different(p<0.05).3. The plaque and gingivitis in caries and caries-free group there are significant differences between the two groups, there was statistically significant (p <0.05).4. Child, the partial eclipse, eating snacks or sweets yogurt frequency, regularly taking some calcium, whether or not parents suffering caries, sleep period, Parents to degree of attention on oral health, mouthwash after every meal, Teeth arranged in neat and family income and so on is the important factors of the caries incidence,(P<0.05). There are not significant difference among sex, breeding methods, brushing frequency, parental occupation and so on (p>0.05). 5. Logistic regression analysis, after controlling complex factors, seven variables , Gingivitis treated by the dentist, the plaque, malnutrition, sleeping period, drink milk with sugar ,partial eclipse, preterm children, which are the major factor of children's caries, but Breastfeeding, gender differences and the incidence of caries was no significant correlation (p>0.05).Conclusions 1. Caries rate of children in Changchun is 51.77% , the faster development speed of caries , the more severe caries. Because parents have a misunderstanding which sooner or later the permanent teeth will replace of the primary teeth and need not treat decay primary teeth and lead to low filling primary teeth. The survey of children aged 10-15 years old, primary teeth are replaced in the special period , it should be as soon as possible to carry out prevention and control of caries. 2. This research shows: the city children's caries prevalence rate is higher than that of rural children's caries prevalence rate3. One child , partial eclipse, liking to eat sweets, both parents suffering from dental caries, long time sleeping and parents having not enough attention on oral health of their children, no mouthwash habit after meal, no mending calcium, irregular arrangement of teeth, high family income , dental plaque, gingivitis are a the main risk factors of caries for 10 - 15 years old children .The results show that caries can be treated and prevented and relevant government departments should be advised to take large-scale epidemiological investigation of caries in their region and in a targeted manner the government should take administration interventions...
