Objective To recognize the status of dental caries and filling treatment of deciduous teeth by making Oral health examination among Hui and Han preschool children in Ningxia. And providing the epidemiological evidence for comprehensive prevention of deciduous teeth caries in Ningxia. Methods Applying The Third National Oral Health Epidemiological Survey scheme, methods by using multistage, stratification, such capacity and random sampling.Extracting 2592 Hui and Han preschool children from the 6 area(city, district) of Ningxia, making oral health examination and completing checklist. The deciduous teeth caries index were analyzed using SPSS 17.0 software package. Results 1.The prevalence of deciduous teeth caries of preschool children in Ningxia: The prevalence of dental caries was 57.41%, the mean dmft and the dmfs scores were 2.51 and 4.19. 2.The state of dental caries filling treatment of preschool children in Ningxia: The filling rate of urban children was 5.71%, the filling rate of rural children only was 1.51%.The Han children in urban was higher than the Han children in rural, there was a significant difference(χ2=44.586,P=0.000,P<0.05);the Hui children in urban was higher than the Hui children in rural, the difference was statistically significant(χ2=41.395,P=0.000,P<0.05). 3.The predilection sites of dental caries in Ningxia: The caries rate of maxillary teeth was15.22%, the caries rate of mandibular teeth was 10.78%, the maxillary was higher than the mandibular, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The prevalence of dental caries of the mandibular posterior region(25.00%)>the maxillary anterior region(15.64%)>the maxillary posterior region(14.60%)>the mandibular anterior region(1.33%), the difference was statistically significant(PALL<0.05).The most number of deciduous caries of maxillary teeth surface was incisor, the least was deciduous cuspid; The most number of deciduous caries of mandibular tooth surface was second primary molar, the least was primary lateral incisor. 4.The influence of the age on the prevalence of dental caries: The maxillary anterior region of deciduous teeth caries increased rapidly between the 3 years and 4 years, slowly after the age of four; The mandibular anterior region of deciduous teeth caries increased rapidly between the 3 years and 4 years, stopped after the age of four. In the maxillary posterior region and the mandibular posterior region, along with the growth of the age, the prevalence of dental caries increased gradually. 5.The influence of the gender on the prevalence of dental caries: The caries rate of male children was 57.87%,the mean dmft and the dmfs scores were 2.51 and 4.19;the caries rate of female children was 56.94%, the mean dmft score and the dmfs scores were 2.49 and 3.92. The male and female children had no significant difference in the prevalence of dental caries, the mean dmft and the mean dmfs(χ2=0.227,P=0.634,P>0.05;tDMFT=1.624, PDMFT=0.105,PDMFT>0.05;tDMFS=2.057, PDMFS=0.040,PDMFS>0.05). 6.The influence of the nation on the prevalence of dental caries: There was no significant difference between Hui and Han male children, and there was no significant difference between Hui and Han female children(PALL>0.05).The filling rate of Han children was 3.63%, the filling rate of rural children only was3.52%, there was no significant difference(χ2=0.059,P=0.808,P>0.05). 7.The influence of the urban and rural on the prevalence of dental caries: The caries prevalence rate of urban children was 56.10%, the mean dmft and the dmfs scores were 2.55 and 4.07; The caries prevalence rate of rural children was 58.72%, the mean dmft and the dmfs scores were 2.65 and 4.31(PALL>0.05). 8.The influence of the local economy on the prevalence of dental caries: The caries prevalence rate of Yinchuan city were higher than those of Guyuan city(χ2=4.164,P=0.041,P<0.05), While Wuzhong city had on difference with Yinchuan and Guyuan city(P >0.05).The mean dmfs of Yinchuan city and Wuzhong city were higher than those of Guyuan city(tYc-Gy=2.041, PYc-Gy=0.041, PYc-Gy<0.05;tWz-Gy=3.520, PWz-Gy=0.000, PWz-Gy<0.05),but Yinchuan city and Wuzhong city had no significant difference(P >0.05).Conclusion 1.Dental caries of deciduous teeth among preschool children is more serious in Ningxia, the filling rate was relatively low, especially in the rural areas. 2.The caries rate of mandibular posterior region teeth was the highest, the maxillary deciduous incisor, mandibular second primary molar teeth predilection sites for dental caries,we should take corresponding measures to prevent caries activity.3.Along with the growth of the age,the severity of the deciduous teeth caries in preschool children increased gradually. 4.The gender and nation had no significant influence on the prevalence of dental caries in Ningxia. 5. The urban and rural, economic level had influence on the prevalence of dental caries in Ningxia, but did not show obvious regularity.
