Objective:To investigate the changes of TCM Syndromes points, apnea-hyperpnoea index (AHI), lowest nocturnal oxygen saturation (LSpO2), time of nocturnal oxygen saturation lower 90%(T-SpO2<90%) and body mass index (BMI), evaluating the efficacy of Chinese medicinal herbs " the 1st snoring prescription" for qi deficiency and phlegm and blood stasis type of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, and discuss Chinese medicine treatment of OSAHS on qi deficiency and phlegm and blood stasis type advantages.Methods:60 OSAHS patients of phlegm and blood stasis type were divided into two subgroups, which were classified "experimental group" including patients who accepted "the 1st snoring prescription" treatment (n=30) and "control group" including patients who did not accept any treatment for OSAHS (n=30). TCM Syndromes points, AHI, LSpO2, T-SpO2<90%and BMI were compared in each subgroup before and after three months treatment with "the 1 st snoring prescription".Results:1. TCM Syndromes points:comparison of before and after three months treatment, TCM Syndromes points of the experimental group was declined, while the control group was slightly risen. The difference of before and after three months treatment on the experimental group was statistically significant while the control group was not. After three months treatment, the difference of the experimental group and the control group on TCM Syndromes points was statistically significant.2. Apnea-hyperpnoea index (AHI):comparison of before and after three months treatment, AHI of the experimental group was declined, while the control group was slightly risen. The difference of before and after three months treatment on the experimental group was statistically significant while the control group was not. After three months treatment, the difference of the experimental group and the control group on AHI was statistically significant.3. Lowest nocturnal oxygen saturation (LSpO2):comparison of before and after three months treatment, LSpO2 of the experimental group was risen, while the control group was slightly declined. The difference of before and after three months treatment on the experimental group was statistically significant while the control group was not. After three months treatment, the difference of the experimental group and the control group on LSpO2 was statistically significant.4. Time of nocturnal oxygen saturation lower 90%(T-SpO2<90%):comparison of before and after three months treatment, T-SpO2<90%of the experimental group was declined, while the control group was slightly risen. The difference of before and after three months treatment on the experimental group was statistically significant while the control group was not. After three months treatment, the difference of the experimental group and the control group on T-SpO2<90%was statistically significant.5. Body mass index (BMI):comparison of before and after three months treatment, BMI of the experimental group was slightly declined, while the control group was slightly risen. The difference of before and after three months treatment on both the experimental group and the control group was not statistically significant. After three months treatment, the difference of the experimental group and the control group on BMI was no statistically significant.6. No obvious side effects were found in the course of the experimental group.Conclusion:1. Improvement of TCM Syndromes points:there was obvious improvement on the points of the experimental group after one month, two months and three months treatment. The improvement was statistically significant, indicating that "the 1st snoring prescription" treating qi deficiency and phlegm and blood stasis type of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome could improve TCM Syndromes points.2. Invigorating spleen for eliminating phlegm and promoting blood circulation for removing blood stasis maybe one of the mechanisms of the significant reduction in AHI and T-SpO2<90%and the improvement in LpSO2.3. Comprehensive outcome, the integral status of patients after 1st SP treatment was markedly improved, and enhances the quality of life.4. "The 1st snoring prescription" was safe and effective; it could be expanded clinical cases to further verify the effectiveness.
