Oil-mist lubrication has been widely applied in metallurgy, petrochemical industry, aviation and so on and it is being used in a wider scope. Consequently, the relevant research on oil-mist is launched gradually. The oil mist concentration measurement method based on polarization method in this paper is put forward, meeting the development requirements of oil mist concentration. The research belongs to a measurement method of discrete phase of multi-phase flow.Above all, this paper introduces the principle of polarized light and generation mechanism of optical rotation effect of polarized light. On this basis, the relationship between deflection angle of polarized light and oil mist concentration is derived systematically. In addition, several oil mist concentration measurement methods based on different principles of polarimetry of polarized light are introduced, and ultimately the photoelectric detection method is determined to measure the oil mist concentration. This thesis introduces emphatically the devices selected for photoelectric detection and a test prototype for oil mist measurement is designed and manufactured. The test prototype is calibrated through an experimental on-site. In the experiment, according to the requirements, a test-bed for generating oil mist, testing the performance of the prototype, is designed. Finally, the monitoring instrument of oil mist density measurement is calibrated through an on-site experiment. It comes to the following conclusions:(1)While oil mist lubrication works on normal conditions, the deviation between experimental data and theoretical data of oil mist detection is 4% with a high accuracy, which proves the device is suitable for online direct quantitative measurement.(2)While the measurement is completed under the high density condition, the polarized light intensity is weakened due to the chromatic dispersion and absorption effects. The deviation between experimental data and theoretical data of oil mist detection is 16%, which means the measurement is quite inaccurate under such a condition. (3)As there are many influence factors for photoelectric detection, it is necessary to discard certain measurement scopes in order to reach high measuring sensitivity.
