With the economy and social of our nation have a rapid development, the request of power quality and power reliability to power users was much higher than before. The information construction under the auxiliary of the economic promotes gradually, the Distribution Automation System has become a goal of the Power System. Europe and America and other developed countries have gained lots of economic and social benefits from the higher degree of Distribution Automation System. Relative to the foreign country, the Distribution Automation System beginning in China was late, the main facilities and related technology was also get behind. Many problems of Distribution Automation System have not reached a broad consensus, still in the initial and exploratory stage in China. Distribution Automation System is a real-time monitoring, coordinating and control for power system. Among them, the various data of power system automation transmission can not without communication system. The construction of communication system is one of the key of Distribution Automation System.This paper studies the Distribution Automation Pilot Project of High-tech Development Zone of Zheng Zhou City, research the regional communication network and the status of medium voltage communication network of this project, as well as the development plan of Zheng Zhou smart grid. By the studies of optical fiber communication, power line carrier and wireless communication of network communication, identified the optical fiber communication as the primary way of communication, power line carrier and wireless communication as supplement way and make up an hybrid communication system. Distribution communications network has covered all the main points of distribution automation, terminal and related business point. This communication network can effectively meet the distribution automation system needs.Based on the requirement and the development of communication system, determined the communication system adopts a layered structure, including the backbone layer and access layer, communication node including main platform, sub site and terminal. Distribution communication backbone layer connect the main platform for distribution communication to sub site or remote workstation. Access layer connect the each of sub site and medium voltage electric business terminal. According to the function, the network management system can be divided into four modules:configuration management, performance management, fault management and safety management.In this paper, EPON (Ethernet passive optical network) as the main communication system, in this respect do an in-depth study and application and construction the major distribution communication system. Major projects are being implemented.
