During the period of “the thirteenth for five years”, State Grid Corporation put forward the development strategy of smart grid and provides customers with high quality, reliable electrical power. The core of the smart grid is an intelligent distribution network. But the implementation power distribution network automation business need reliable transmission of electric power communication network. In recent years, as the distributed power, energy storage system and intelligent charging new business gradually popularized in power grid, distribution automation business needs to the medium low voltage distribution line extension. During the period of “the thirteenth for five years”, the focus of the electric power communication construction project is to build suitable for medium low voltage power distribution automation in business development and coverage in the medium- low-voltage distribution line terminal layer communication network.This paper designs the building of the low voltage power distribution automation communication system from two aspects of communication and network topology. The article analyses the selection of communication mode, selecting the Ethernet passive optical network(EPON), industrial Ethernet switches, distribution lines carrier, wireless public network, wireless private network, which are suitable for medium low voltage distribution network automation communication networking of communication. It analysis from two aspects of technical performance and the engineering investment, in seven angles such as technology characteristics, real-time, reliability, security, equipment cost,construction cost and operational advantage. According to the “two remote”(remote communication, remote sensing), “three remote”(remote control, remote communication, remote sensing), it weighs differently,which weight, weighting and summarize the comparison results of five kinds of communication mode, ultimately determine the EPON technology as a main communication mode in the medium low voltage power distribution automation communication system.This paper takes the technology of EPON to design the system ofEPON medium low voltage power distribution automation communication.According to the characteristics of the network topology, it analysis the selection of passive optical splitter, and it analyses the rationality of the network by calculating the optical link loss, and according to the connection mode of medium low voltage power distribution lines and structure of network topology, it designs the redundant configuration;according to the characteristics of the medium low voltage distribution network and different network topology structure, it designs the network configuration; and it designs the number of optical fiber core configuration from the perspective of project investment construction and the cycle of network operation. This article designs a system which in the face of medium low voltage distribution circuit of communication by using the EPON technology to satisfy the implementation of the medium low voltage distribution line equipment communication, which leads to the effectiveness and reliability of the distribution automation data in the medium low voltage distribution side. Finally, it realizes the power distribution automation business to the extension of medium low voltage power distribution in the side.Finally, based on the programe of medium voltage distribution network feeder automation business in Danyang, the article designs a formation of medium voltage power distribution automation communication network in the way of EPON in Danyang area. In order to ensure the designed network accords with the practice of engineering construction, the article focuses on the rationality of the network to argue and analyze. In this paper, it realizes a complete coverage of the medium voltage power distribution lines of communication in Danyang, through designing examples and completes the communication of medium voltage power distribution line about switch equipment. It helps to achieve the intended effect of the medium voltage feeder automation transformation in Danyang and build the medium voltage power distribution automation communication network of the business development in Danyang in the future.
