The Habitat Evaluation Of Giant Panda And The Landscape Pattern Analyzing

Giant Panda, which has always been called as a "national treasure" and a "living fossil", isthe special rear endangered wildlife in China.It is also a sign specie and flagship of global wildanimal protection. The Xiaozhaizigou Nature Reserve is the most important habitat to theMinshan Mountain Range. So, based on the related data, study the suitability of the Giant Pandahabitat. This study would provide a theoretical foundation for the research in this area.This paper summarized literature materials and Field investigation results.Meanwhilecombined with the geographic positions and natural conditions of Xiaozhaizigou Nature Reserve,7key habitat factors (altitude factors, slope factors, slope to factors, river distribution, vegetationtypes, bamboo distribution, road factors) were selected. Then set up a corresponding habitatevaluation index system. Based on geography, biological and disturbance factor, single factorevaluation and the habitat suitability distribution evaluation were carried out by ERDAS9.2andArcGIS9.3. This research has analyzed twelve landscape indexes. From the patch level andlandscape level, the study analyzed landscape pattern, shape, diversity and fragmentation of thereserve's forest landscape. The results showed that:(1) Most of the study area was suitable for Giant Panda to live. Appropriate area accountsfor56.63%of the total area; the second suitable area accounts for31.63%of the total area;unsuitable area accounts for11.74%of the total area.(2) Contrast with the Giant Panda trail distribution, the result is credible. The study area issuitable for Giant Panda to survive.(3) In the study area, there are10landscape types. Subalpine coniferous forest and mixedbroadleaf-conifer forest account for larger areas.And they are the advantage landscape types of the reserve.(4)Both of advantage landscape types have larger shape index and fractal dimension. Itshows that the type of plaques is complex, peripheral area is developed, self similarity is low anddisturbance is less.(5)Landscape diversity index is1.1585, evenness index is0.5031, the dominance index is1.1441.In the study area, the landscape types had big differences in areas, had the advantagestatus of the landscape types.(6)The advantage type had big average patch area, low landscape fragmentation. The forestlandscape is integrity and stability, and it's weak in Intensity of human or natural disturbance.The study area is good in protection and also good for habitat selection of Giant Panda. Theresult provided the scientific basis to protect the Giant Panda's habitat.
