Along with the rapid development of technologies of the Internet of Things in the21st century, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Technology) has been applied into the life of the general public. With antenna serving as the media, this technology can carry out reading operation for the contents contained in one or more tags simultaneously, without the need to directly contact with the object for detection. As it has characteristics typical of readers (it is small in size and easy in carrying; its label is not easy to damage; it is relatively low in cost), RFID has been widely applied in various fields such as logistics, smart shops, national security, food security. However, in China, its application in the filed of tire is still at its infancy stage.This paper designs and completes a UHF RFID handheld reader which is dedicated to the tire industry. By searching and studying data related to the composition and principles of RFID, protocols and standards of EPC Gen2, as well as the production line of the tire industry, the author carries out repeated comparisons and finalizes a design program suitable for the industry. In terms of hardware design, the author adopts the method of modular design, and selects micro2440as the platform, so as to carry out designing for display, touch screen, keyboard, power supply, external memory and other modules; In terms of software, the author selects the top-down design method and especially designs software functions suitable for the tire industry. Firstly, the author conducts cutting and transplantation for Windows CE, and then uses C#language to realize software functions on this operating system. Finally, the author carries out test for the system and verifies the functions of the reader. In the conclusion part, the paper proposes the future direction for the follow-up work, as well as methods to improve the performance of the reader.After experimental test, the RFID reader designed by the paper can carry out accurate operation of reading for the RFID tags within2m, as well as operation of writing for RFID tags within1.2m, which well proves that it has a promising prospect of being applied into the tire industry.
