Rapidly developing Internet media has been causing profound and sharp changes to the landscape of traditional newspaper. The topic of how to well use the Internet, how to cope with the rising of new Internet media, has now become a key concern of traditional newspaper operators.Although the practice of interaction between print paper and Internet media has started long ago, but the term was not officially included in academic and professional publications until 2000. And it was also until after 2004 that this term became frequently mentioned by Chinese media. Now the newspaper industry has come to reach a shared understanding that they must make use of cooperation of the print media and the Internet in order to largely improve quality and content of news itself. The year 2006 has now been considered the Year of Interaction between Print Paper and Internet Media because such practice started being widely adopted by the Chinese journalism industry. But we still lack systematic summary and vivid experience-sharing cases to elaborate on this topic, based on related professional journals and books in this area so far. There is also no guideline for defining the practice of interaction between print media and the Internet platform. Especially, we could find no documented cases of how should such a practice improve the reporting of some major news event. The thesis gives analysis in three different aspects involved in cooperative reporting by print paper and Internet media and especially focuses on discussing scenarios in reporting major news events. The three aspects include the interaction between the reporters and the Netizens, interaction between the print-paper content and that on the Internet platform as well as between the print-paper organization and the Website structure. This can be considered an untried viewpoint for discussing such a worthy topic. The thesis makes analysis with details by three parts after elaborating on how the research in this area starts, the purpose, its value and the current researching situation.Focus of the viewpoints of this thesis is that the interaction between print media and the Internet is reflected by three levels, the interaction between people, between contents, and between organizations. The paper uses examples of journalistic practices of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 Shanghai Expo to demonstrate the point. The cases provide details to explain the due influences between the three levels of interactions. In the end, the paper also raises the author's own understanding of the future of the practice in print-paper and Internet interaction. The thesis raises the viewpoint that newspapers are either forced into accept the interaction with the Internet, nor are they being replaced by Internet; and that the print-paper and Internet Interaction can be practiced by three dimensions. Such viewpoints are fresh and inspiring and hopefully, they could contribute to the development of the future of cooperated development of print paper and the Internet platform.
