| "Science and technology constitute the primary productive force." IT is the front edge of technology nowadays, and the largest industry of China which is closely related to daily life. IT newspapers, as media of science and technology communication, is important for promoting public undertanding of science, citizen's knowledge and common life standard.Popular Computer Week, considered firstly as a "small-scale science popularization nespaper" among Chinese IT press, is based in Chongqing. Despite of its "grass-roots origin", Popular Computer Week competes in a meritorious rise while beating its counterparts which are quite better than it in initial resources, and become the "best authoritative IT media in China" chosen by readers. Therefore, what its features are in science and technology news and and what its enlightments are to other trade press, or even to the whole press industry, become the main concerns of this paper.This paper takes field study and content analysis to study its science and technology news of Popular Computer Week during the past 10 years, and finds:1, Popular Computer Week carries a concept as promoting "public understanding science" all through 18 years from its very beginning, and holds reader service as its basic as well as highest editor's principles; 2, it balances well between professional features and reader service and maintenance of readers'rights; 3, it carries a suitable editing system and traditions to its own features. |
