In the recent years, coal mining industry obtained the fast development. However, due to the complex underground coal mine environment, there are still many security risks such as mine collapse, water seepage, excessive gas concentrations, etc. These hidden dangers threaten the lives of miners all the time. When the accident occurrences, it is important to master the concrete underground location of miners and the underground environment parameters in time for providing reliable data to immediate rescue work, so as to reduce the number of casualties. In order to promote mine safety production, the prevention of the occurrence of mine is more important than mine successfully rescue. This paper proposed a design of mining operators' management system by using ZigBee technology from the angles of safety science. The system has many functions such as real-time tracking of miners'location, identification and security alarms, and can help realizing the efficient and security management for coal mine enterprises. ZigBee technology has advantages of low-power, low cost, reliable communications, network self-organizing, and so on, these features are suitable for coal mine safety monitoring and personnel location systems.This paper deeply studies the protocol of IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee network technology. After we studied the status of mine production in China and compared several technologies, it shows that the ZigBee technology has the feasibility and advantages for personnel management system. Based on the above research works, this paper proposed the overall scheme for mining operators'management system by adopting ZigBee technology and CAN bus technology. System uses the ZigBee network to realized attendance management and real-time positioning of mining operators. Then transmit the signal strength, personnel information, and environment parameters acquired by ZigBee wireless network through CAN bus timely to the ground control center. Finally, the control center obtains and processes the data, and distributes the trajectory and dynamic distribution in all underground roadways of each miner on the GIS map to achieve real-time management of mining operators. The paper compared a variety of positioning technologies, combined with the actual coal mine environment and positioning request, and chose positioning technology based on RSSI.The system comprises of three major parts, including data acquisition part, CAN bus data transmission part and Inoue data processing. Hardware and software of data acquisition and processing based on ZigBee technology, wireless communications is designed, it mainly includes personnel carry ZigBee terminal mobile node, ZigBee routers and ZigBee coordinator. ZigBee terminal mobile node choose SoC CC2430 to send, receive and process information, by setting the sleep mode to decreased the power. When design the ZigBee routers, we select the optimal routing path to transmit information. ZigBee coordinator use low-power MSP430 microprocessor and wireless transceiver chip CC2420 to implement information collection and process, then transmit the information to the ground monitoring center through the CAN bus. The software of the ground monitoring center chooses a Client/Server model to realize the underground personnel monitoring and environmental testing. Finally, the paper proposed an anti-interference measure for the underground coal mine environment.With the development of science and technology, the requirements of the intelligent mine are becoming higher and higher, therefore the design of mining operators'management system in this paper has many advantages, such as high precision, easy installation, safe and reliable and strong expandability, so it has high feasibility and great using value.
