Testing the vehicle driving wandering is an important part in the process ofautomobile manufacturing, and vehicle driving wandering is the main indicator tomeasure the vehicle driving stability. The vehicle driving wandering test system basedon CCD image sensor is applied successfully in the domestic for the first time. As thevery important part in the test system, the test benchmark of physical coordinate fordifferent cameras is unified by camera calibration, and the testing accuracy of thewandering test system is influenced directly by the accuracy of the calibration results.Therefore, to study the camera calibration technology and research the cameracalibration algorithm are crucial to improve the testing accuracy of the system.Through the further study on vehicle driving wandering test system, optimize thecamera calibration procedure by Labview, and research the best camera calibrationalgorithm to improve the testing accuracy, as well as the relationship between thecontrol points and calibration algorithm. Design the calibration frame based on thebest camera calibration algorithm by using CATIA to build the3D model. Develop thealgorithm based on MATLAB to calibrate the optical distortion error, resolve theproblem of optical distortion existing in lens for the camera to be calibratedsuccessfully, and optimize the camera calibration procedure to reduce the error ofcalibration results caused by the optical distortion. This paper applying the method ofcombining theory and experiment, use the theory of camera calibration to instruct thedesign of calibration frame, and optimize the calibration system by practicalexperiments.This article researches on camera calibration mainly from two aspects ofhardware and software. Hardware refers to the calibration frame, calibration frame isvery important in camera calibration, and it provides the required control points withaccurate coordinates in calibrating. Compared with the calibration frame with steelstructure was designed in the previous wandering test system, the calibration framewith segmented structure is innovative to be designed from structure and material, itcan against the disadvantages of calibration frame with steel structure such as easy todeform、heavy weight and poor structural stability, the new designed calibration framehas the characteristics of light weight and good structural stability. The software refersto the camera calibration procedure. In order to improve testing accuracy of thesystem, analyze the factors affecting calibration results in calibrating, focusing on correcting the calibration error caused by optical distortion, develop the algorithmbased on MATLAB to calibrate the distortion error, and optimize the cameracalibration procedure.Experimental results show that the calibration frame with segmented structure ismore stable and its comprehensive performance is improved. The algorithm based onMATLAB to calibrate the optical distortion error can reduce the calibration erroreffectively, and the optimization of camera calibration procedure is completed. Thetesting accuracy of vehicle driving wandering test system is higher, and theperformance of the system can be improved further.
